Pull Up a Chair by the Fire

What's a Pioneer Cookout?

Food cooked over an open fire in Dutch ovens and cast iron, the way families cooked on the trail. No agenda and no sales pitch, just families building the same life and getting to know each other.

Hosted by a Partner

A trusted partner hosts at their place or a build site, and covers the food.

Free for Pioneer & Legacy

Every Pioneer and Legacy family is invited. It never costs a thing.

Bring a Family

Each family can bring one Front Porch family as their guest.

Dutch Oven Basics

How Many Coals?

Baking in a Dutch oven means heat from above and below. Most of the coals go on the lid, so the bottom doesn't scorch.

Turn the lid a quarter turn one way and the oven a quarter turn the other every 10 minutes or so to keep the heat even.

Counts are for standard charcoal briquettes and are approximate. Wind and cold weather call for a few more.
